Hilton Long Beach Boycott

A picture from the picket line on Saturday, February 13, part of the Young Adult Urban Ministry weekend.

The ironic thing is that this is the hotel the PSWD has contracted with to host our 2011 District Assembly. Obviously few of us (none of us) would be willing to cross the picket line. But breaking our contract would incur a substantial financial penalty that the District can ill afford. It will be interesting to see how this plays out over the next few months, and how we can continue to support the hotel workers in their action.

How can you cross a picket line when the workers are not on strike? The hotel is not even unionized? :)

the hotel workers have called for a boycott of the hotel. They are still working. The picket line is a tool to draw attention to the boycott. Without a union if the workers went on "strike" they would simply be fired and replaced. they walk the picket during non-work hours and breaks.

Reverend Ricky,
Do us all a favor and stay in Silverlake. We, THE REAL EMPLOYEES OF THE HILTON LONG BEACH, are sick and tired of people like you coming down to our hotel supporting this so called boycott. If you look closely at this "picket line" you'll find that it is all union orginizers and interested members of the community who ironicly enough, live very far from here.
